“The Electronic Bill of Lading” — A Comparative Study between UAE Maritime Law and the Rotterdam Rules

As part of the Emirates Association for Lawyers and Legal commitment to supporting legal research and intellectual contributions, and to promoting specialized legal publications, the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair will witness the launch of the first book by Lawyer Adel Abdulqader Hameed Fakher, entitled:

“The Electronic Bill of Lading: A Comparative Study between UAE Maritime Law and the Rotterdam Rules”

The book is the culmination of years of research and study into a legal subject that keeps pace with the rapid developments in the maritime transport sector and digital transformation. It examines the electronic bill of lading from a comparative legal perspective, focusing on UAE maritime law and comparing it with the provisions of the Rotterdam Rules.

The importance of the subject addressed in the book is particularly evident in light of the increasing digitalization of commercial and maritime transactions and the resulting legal issues concerning the legal recognition and evidentiary value of electronic documents, the establishment and transfer of rights and obligations, and the extent to which existing legal frameworks can keep pace with technological developments in maritime transport and international trade.

This publication represents the first legal contribution by Lawyer Adel Abdulqader Hameed Fakher in the field of legal authorship and constitutes a specialized addition to legal literature. It provides researchers, legal practitioners, and those interested in maritime law with an opportunity to examine contemporary legal developments relating to digital transformation in maritime transport and international trade.
