As part of its participation in the activities of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, the Emirates Association for Lawyers and Legal organized a panel discussion titled “Criminal Protection of the Family.” The session examined the UAE’s criminal legislative framework and its role in protecting the family, safeguarding the rights of its members, and promoting family stability.
 

The session was moderated by Lawyer / Nasser Mal Allah Al Hammadi, with Counselor Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Awa serving as the guest speaker. Dr. Al Awa highlighted key aspects of the protection afforded to families under UAE criminal legislation, including legal provisions aimed at protecting family members from various forms of assault, abuse, and violence.
 

The discussion addressed the importance of criminal protection of the family as a fundamental pillar of social security and stability. The UAE legislator has established a comprehensive legal framework criminalizing acts that threaten the safety and dignity of family members, while providing enhanced protection for individuals who may be particularly vulnerable to harm, thereby contributing to a safe and stable family environment.
 

The panel also explored the role of criminal legislation in addressing crimes occurring within the family context, emphasizing the importance of striking a balance between preserving family cohesion and ensuring the protection of individual rights and access to justice for those affected by family-related crimes. The speakers further highlighted the importance of legal awareness and community education as essential tools for preventing family-related offences and mitigating their consequences.
 

The session underscored that family protection remains a key priority within the UAE’s legislative framework, and that the continued development of relevant legislation reflects the UAE’s commitment to strengthening family and community security, protecting rights, and upholding human dignity.
 

The panel forms part of the Emirates Association for Lawyers and Legal efforts to promote legal knowledge and provide platforms for specialized dialogue on legislative and social issues, contributing to greater legal awareness and keeping pace with developments in the UAE’s legal framework.
