A Community Dialogue Session Held as Part of the 2026 Emirati Women’s Day Celebrations
The Emirates Lawyers Association organized a community dialogue session entitled “Emirati Women… The Family’s Imprint and a Lasting Impact” on Thursday, 27 August 2026, at the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park, as part of the 2026 Emirati Women’s Day programme. The session was attended by Counselor Zayed Saeed Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Association’s Board of Directors, and Ms. Fatima Humaid Al Shara, Executive Director of the Association, and lawyer Sara Yousuf, head of the Women Lawyers Council in the association.
The session coincided with the celebration of Emirati Women’s Day 2026, held under the theme “We Will Rise Stronger and Better,” announced by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the UAE,” may Allah protect her. The national occasion is being celebrated over an entire month, from 28 August to 28 September 2026, reflecting the distinguished status of Emirati women and their achievements and contributions across various fields.
The theme of the session was selected in recognition of the family as the fundamental building block of society, and in alignment with the UAE’s designation of 2026 as the “Year of the Family,” reflecting the nation’s commitment to strengthening family stability and cohesion and reinforcing the family’s role in building society. Against this backdrop, the session focused on the pivotal role women play in building the family, raising children, and instilling values and principles, as a fundamental foundation for raising aware generations capable of continuing the development journey and contributing to a more cohesive society and a more sustainable future.

The session explored the role of Emirati women from an integrated perspective that connects their presence within the family with their contributions to society. It emphasized that the impact women create within their families can extend beyond the private sphere to become a social and national impact carried forward from one generation to another.

The session was moderated by Counselor Zeina Mohammed Ahmed, while Lawyer Sara Yousuf delivered the opening remarks. The session featured a distinguished group of female speakers who addressed the role of Emirati women from diverse legal, family and community perspectives.
Dr. Hawa Yousuf Ahmed addressed the first topic, “The International Framework for Promoting and Protecting Women’s Rights in the United Arab Emirates,” highlighting the importance of the legislative framework in supporting the status of women and strengthening their rights, as well as the safeguards and enabling mechanisms provided by the UAE legal system that have contributed to reinforcing women’s presence and active participation in society.
Lawyer Aisha Al Dhaheri addressed the second topic, “Between Law and Voice… Emirati Women from Empowerment to Creating Impact,” shedding light on the journey of Emirati women from empowerment to impact creation, through the integration of their family and community roles with the legal frameworks that support their presence and contributions.
Lawyer Fatima Al Yasi addressed the third topic, “Emirati Women Between Legal Practice and Family,” discussing the challenges of balancing professional life with family responsibilities, with a particular focus on the experiences of women working in the legal profession and advocacy, as well as the importance of providing a supportive environment that enables women to continue their professional and family contributions.
The final topic, “Emirati Women from Creating Success to Creating Impact,” was addressed by Dr. Hanan Yahya Ali, who highlighted the journey of Emirati women and their contributions in the past, as well as their transition into broader and more influential roles in the present and future. This reflects their ability to transform experience and achievement into a lasting impact that benefits generations to come.
